Toilet Seat Hinges

Toilet seat hinges are one of those simple “must haves” in life that we often over look, take for granted, and forget about. Until they brake, or stop working!

Then, it is time to get another set. Well, here are some things to remember when fetching another pair of toilet seat hinges. Perhaps you can avoid a few “extra” trips to the store, as acquiring new toilet seat hinges can be one of those jobs where you think you know what you need, then when you get there you are like, “which ones do I need?”.

First, remove the broken toilet seat hinges. If for some reason they won’t come off, you might need a new seat. However, you should be able to remove them with a simple screwdriver or a similar tool with no problem.  Make sure to take the broken hinge with you when going to purchase a new one. This can save many headaches when you arrive, and are trying to figure out the right one to get.  You will need differentscrews if you have a raised toilet seat.

Also, keep in mind what kind of hinge you want. Do you want one like you had? Do you want to get a more expensive one that might last longer? Compare the old one with the one you would like to get, and see if it will fit. Sometimes, even if the new toilet seat hinge looks nothing like the old one, it will still line up fine. Just remember to check the old one before you throw a new one in the cart!  It really does not matter if you have the round or the elongated toilet seat.

You also need to keep color in mind. Do you want the same color toilet seat hinge you had? Or do you want to try a different color?  Would you like to match the black toilet seat to the black hinges?  Keep in mind what the colors of your bathroom are, and try to get one that will match. When you get home, and are ready to install the new hinge, make sure you use either the screws that came with the new hinge, or the old ones. If you use screws that are too long, they can stick out, which wouldn’t be very comfortable for restroom use! Use the same screwdriver or tool it took to remove the hinge to put the new one on, and be careful not to drop anything in the toilet, as it can be a hassle to fish out.  After that, you should be set. Enjoy the new toilet seat hinges, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done!
